Reborn with slight defects.
After Jurassic World hit theaters, I started hearing good things about it and thought I should check it out. I mean, the cinematography looked good enough and it has Chris Pratt. Let's be honest, Chris Pratt is amazing and no matter what, he was going to be good in this movie.
So my plan was to grab a couple of friends, which turned out to be my DP friend Austin as well as my previous AD Stephen, and go see this thing. Here are my thoughts, enjoy!
A fun, action packed, underdeveloped, Jurassic Blast!
Overall, I really enjoyed this movie! The new dinosaur was awesome, the acting was decent, the story was good, and the cinematography was great! I found the story to be very exciting and adventurous and it had some really good nostalgic moments for the pre-existing Jurassic fan base.
It was fun, and at times humorous but what I'm most impressed about, is that they laid the ground work for more Jurassic Park movies to exist. It showed us that there are more journey's to be had. But sadly, it doesn't show its originality enough.
Although the movie was fun and exciting, the film felt very underdeveloped and dull. From the characters to how the story unfold, it all felt like an exciting block buster, without the human connection.
What made the original so exciting was that you got well developed characters that you cared about. It helped the suspense during the T - Rex scene and the Raptor scene... You didn't want the characters to die.
In this movie, I simply didn't care. Especially with the kids, I didn't care about them. Don't get me wrong, they tried to develop them, but it turns out being some shoe horned in subplots that go NOWHERE.
A Pratt on the back
Chris Pratt was awesome in this, and although the character's felt a bit dull, he was just awesome. He had some great moments filled with action and humor, and it felt right. He was very interesting and well utilized in this movie.
Also, him training raptors... IS AWESOME.
High Heels, AGAIN
To finish, I would like to suggest seeing this on the big screen. It was really fun and the cinematography looked really awesome. So if you can take this movie not completely living up to the original, dust off your toy dinos and go have a blast.
Below I have a list to give you an overview of what I did and didn't like about the film. But as you can see, the good really outways the bad.
- Acting (sometimes)
- Indominus Rex
- Chris Pratt
- Chris Pratt
- Over reliance on VFX
- Underdeveloped story elements
